State Vs Rodney Reed documentary - Innocent man on Texas death-row

State vs. Reed" is a 60 minute documentary that explores an explosive capital murder trial in Texas that has resulted in a questionable death penalty conviction of Bastrop, Texas' Rodney Reed. Reed, a then-28 year-old black male with a minor criminal record, was convicted in 1998 of the murder of Stacey Stites, a 19 year-old finacee' of a local police officer named Jimmy Fennell. Though Fennell was the primary suspect for over a year who failed two polygraph examinations, Reed was eventually arrested after DNA found on the victim was connected to him. Reed claims that he and the victim, who was Caucasian, shared a consensual sexual affair for over 6 months and that an encounter the night before would account for the finding of his DNA as well as a possible motive for the real killer. "State vs. Reed" dives into this complex and potentially benchmark case that still rattles the citizens of this small Central Texas town. By talking to those who knew best -- friends of the victim and family of the defendent, investigators, lawyers, journalists and Reed himself, on Texas' notorious Death Row -- the award winning documentary reveals a case fraught with open questions and unusual coincidences. Ultimately, the documentary reveals the mistake-prone system that sentences men and woman to death in the state of Texas at a rate incomparable around the world. Filmmakers Bustoz and Polomski are first-time feature filmmakers, though have worked in the medium in central Texas for years. Previously, they have worked on the internationally screened short documentary, "Hecho a Mano: Tres Historias de Guatemala". "State vs. Reed" premiered at the 2006 South By Southwest Film Festival where it won the Lone Star States Audience Award. It has since been screened multiple times in the central Texas area, including PBS.

Funeral Of Slain Man Held Under Strict Security Measures In Jerusalem

Hundreds of Palestinians, including family members, held earlier on Friday at dawn the funeral procession of the slain Palestinian, Ibrahim Hijazi, 32, in occupied Jerusalem although the police and the army imposed a tight siege in an attempt to limit the number of Palestinians attending the funeral.
The Israeli army handed the family the body of their slain son, shortly after midnight, before installing numerous roadblocks to prevent the Palestinians from participating in the funeral procession, and informed the family that only 45 persons are allowed to attend.

The WAFA News Agency said the soldiers installed many roadblocks in Salah Ed-Deen Street and various nearby areas after declaring them closed military zones, while hundreds of Palestinians, who were prevented from participating in the funeral procession, started chanting for the slain Palestinian, the liberation of Palestine and the end of the illegitimate Israeli occupation.

Despite the extensive presence of soldiers and police officers, and the tight siege, more than 300 Palestinians managed to break through the barricades, and attended the funeral and burial of the slain Palestinian.

Hijazi was buried in Bab as-Sahera graveyard in Salah Ed-Deen area in occupied East Jerusalem. He was assassinated, Thursday, in his own home by multiple rounds of live ammunition fired by undercover forces of the Israeli military.

Israel claims he is behind the attempted killing of fanatic Israeli rabbi Yehuda Glick, who suffered four gunshot injuries to his chest, ribs and intestines.

Glick led repeated invasions into the al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem as part the attempts “to demolish the mosque and rebuild the temple.”

He is also the head of the so-called Temple Mount Heritage Foundation, the umbrella foundation that runs many fanatic groups responsible for numerous provocative attacks and invasions targeting the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Muslim worshipers.

Hijazi is a former political prisoner who was held by Israel for 11 years, including 10 years in solitary confinement, and was released on June 5, 2012.

He was initially sentenced to six years, but in 2004, he received an additional four-year imprisonment allegedly after attacking a soldier.

Two Dallas Men Released After Serving 15 Years

Stanley Mozee and David Allen

Dennis Lee Allen and Stanley Orson Mozee walked out of a Dallas County courtroom Tuesday after the judge ruled that their murder convictions from 2000 should be overturned based on previously withheld evidence. The Innocence Project and the Innocence Project of Texas had petitioned for the pair’s release based on evidence that suggests serious prosecutorial misconduct as well as the favorable results of recent DNA testing on bloodstains and other key evidence from the crime scene. District Attorney Craig Watkins and his Conviction Integrity Unit agreed that the prosecutor withheld exculpatory evidence and joined the lawyers for Allen and Mozee in seeking Tuesday’s ruling that the pair did not receive a fair trial on that basis.

Allen and Mozee were convicted of the 1999 murder of Reverend Jesse Borns Jr., despite a lack of physical evidence or any eyewitnesses connecting them to the crime. The prosecution relied on testimony from jailhouse informants and an unrecorded confession from Mozee, who has a history of mental illness and immediately recanted, saying he was coerced into signing a statement.

Post-conviction DNA testing found no trace of DNA from the two men on multiple items recovered from the scene, however DNA from one or more persons that doesn’t match to the victim, Allen or Mozee was discovered on several items. Further, letters were discovered in the former Assistant District Attorney’s case file from jailhouse informants indicating that they had been promised reduced sentences in exchange for their testimony. These informants, who claimed to have heard Allen and Mozee admitting to the murder, swore to the jury that they didn’t receive, or even seek, favorable treatment for their testimony. These letters were never disclosed during the 2000 trials despite orders from the judge to turn over prior statements made by all witnesses and all evidence favorable to the defense. The two inmates both received lenient sentences for the crimes they were facing and have since told defense attorneys their initial testimony was false.

People For Schapelle Corby

With the AFP and media awash with evidence of drug syndication at Australian airports involving corrupt baggage handlers and others, and with the AFP actually in possession of the Kessing Reports which proved it, what did Commissioner Michael Keelty tell the media two weeks before the verdict in the Schapelle Corby case?

He stated the following:
"There is very little intelligence to suggest that baggage handlers are using innocent people to traffic heroin or other drugs between states"

He made a completely false and hugely damaging statement, which was immediately syndicated nationally, and more importantly, to Indonesia:
http://www.expendable.tv/2011/09/exhibit-law-council-afp-commissioner.html

This was just the beginning. Full details of Keelty's role and involvement are available from the following web page:
http://www.expendable.tv/2011/09/australian-federal-police-commissioner.html

The government and the political establishment are well aware of this, and that it was one of the prime reasons behind the illegal armed AFP raids on Channel Seven's offices and Mercedes Corby's lawyer earlier this year:
http://www.expendable.tv/2014/04/mna-armed-afp-raids-on-schapelle-corby.html

However, as with the huge catalogue of evidence relating to former Prime Minister John Howard and former Justice Minister Christopher Ellison, they are silent. They don’t even respond to questions from the people who elect them.

The ranks are closed, with Schapelle Corby and the Australian public on the outside.

How Drone Warfare Kills Innocents • BRAVE NEW FILMS: SECURITY

Since 2004 drone strikes have killed 2,379 human beings. Of those thousands killed, only 12% could be positively identified as “militants". Drone strike victims are overwhelmingly innocent civilians. SIGN THE PETITION & WATCH THE FULL FILM FREE: http://www.bravenewfilms.org/nomoredr...

These innocents are mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, grandmas, old, young, and they are NOT terrorists.

The US drone policy by all evidence is not making us safer. The opposite is happening: anti-American sentiment fuels terrorism.

A year ago for the first time drone survivor families from Pakistan came to the United States to testify before Congress. Conversations have since changed on Capitol Hill and more members of Congress are paying attention and asking the right questions. The number of US airstrikes in Pakistan has been declining in volume every year but there is still much more work to be done**. We need to continue to ramp up the public pressure against drone strikes.

In Unmanned: America's Drone Wars, the eighth full-length feature documentary from Brave New Foundation, director Robert Greenwald investigates the impact of U.S. drone strikes at home and abroad through more than 70 separate interviews, including a former American drone operator who shares what he has witnessed in his own words, Pakistani families mourning loved ones and seeking legal redress, investigative journalists pursuing the truth, and top military officials warning against blowback from the loss of innocent life.

Throughout Unmanned, Greenwald intersperses in-depth interviews with never-before-seen footage from the tribal regions in Pakistan to humanize those who have been impacted by our drone policy. This footage, alongside interviews with Pakistani drone survivors, describes the brutal reality of drone attacks ordered during the Obama Administration. The film highlights the stories of 16 year old Tariq Aziz, killed by a drone a mere week after he participated in a public conference in Islamabad in 2011, and a school teacher, Rafiq ur Rehman, grappling with the loss of his elderly mother and the hospitalization of his children due to a drone strike last year, showing how delicate life can be in this virtual war where no one is accepting responsibility for the casualties.

Dear Mr Cameron,

On a day when a story breaks on the BBC about the Swiss contract children or child slavery as it should be called, UNICEF reports that 1 in 4 children in Britain are living in poverty. "The UNICEF report also ranked the UK 25th on a child poverty league table of 41 developed nations for allowing the effects of the international economic crisis to hurt vulnerable households."

The tragedy in Switzerland began in the 1850's and continued into the late 20th Century. I have said many times that despite our modern sophistication (which actually means adulterated and less than natural) and technological advancement we are still plagued with barbarity and cannot yet be considered to have generally emerged as humane creatures.

You are to be congratulated, only in the darkest perverted sense, at the success of your war on the poor. You clearly take pride in it and, despite all advice, information and intervention (UN, Red Cross, UNICEf, Trussell Trust, Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) and others, including me), you are pursuing your policies of hardship mercilessly.

In Switzerland as here, it must be noted that this is systemic, top down, abuse and barbarity. Your government of feudal throwbacks, which even the Torygraph described as, "patronising those at the bottom and disabling those in the middle who might constitute a threat to the power of those at the top", are the ravening beasts of predatory aristocracy.

Your presumption is astounding, the very last people to dictate to and tell the poor how to live are the historic predators of the poor, those with a vested interest in maintaining the subjugation and slavery of ordinary people for your own benefit.

Last but not least in this tale of larceny by the privileged, special mention must go to the lap dogs, the lackeys and brownnosers, to power, of which Iain Duncan Smith is indisputably one, because such people can be relied upon to be the most vindictive and most vicious in the service of power. He it was who called us 'Stock!' Privilege and the pursuit of privilege is pure filth!

Greetings we are Anonymous.
We come to you once again to ask for your help in making the lives of those less fortunate more
bearable.
In times like these when it seems humanity, tolerance and peace is hard to find, it falls to us the
ordinary citizens of this planet to show there is still love, compassion and respect left in the world.

Operation Safewinter was and still is about caring first and helping second. A kind word, the
willingness to listen and even a smile can change a persons day, but a blanket, some warm clothes
or even a sandwich can change a persons life.

We ask you to help us help those who are suffering the most in our societies, we do not ask for
donations of money, just donations of time.

The Operation Safewinter mission is in three phases.
Phase 1. To build an interactive map showing the locations of shelter, soup kitchens, advice centres
etc worldwide. This phase has already begun, but we need your help. List the resources in your
town or city and send it to us. Use the map to know where these places are locally and pass on this
knowledge.

Phase 2. Encourage volunteer units to help gather blankets and clothing to be distributed out to
those that need them most. Using the map, work with already established groups in your areas to
help even if its just an hour per week. Make sandwiches, cakes and hand out food parcels. Bottles of
water are most important.
Phase 3. To save just one life this winter, to make the day better for just one person. To work
together and show that even though it seems the world is out of control with respect, love and
compassion that we as citizens of this planet still have our humanity.
We are Anonymous.
We are legion.
We do not forgive.
We do not forget.
Operation Safewinter re-engaged.
Expect us.

Is Filming a Police Officer a "Domestic Threat"? Austin Activist on Tria...

http://democracynow.org - A jury in Austin, Texas, is set to issue its decision today in a case that centers on a person's right to film police officers. Antonio Buehler says he was at a gas station in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day in 2012 when he used his phone to take pictures of a woman being arrested and crying out for help. Ultimately, Buehler's attempt to document what he felt was apparent police abuse ended with his own arrest when the officer said he felt Buehler spit on him. He faced a felony charge of "harassment of a public servant," and two to 10 years in prison. Last year, a grand jury cleared Buehler of the felony, but in an usual twist, it came back with a charge of "failure to obey a lawful order," a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a $500 fine. The order was for Buehler to put his hands behind his back as he tried to take pictures. Since then Buehler has co-founded the group Peaceful Streets Project, whose members record police and post the videos online, and train others to do the same. He has been arrested several more times while videotaping officers and has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the Austin Police Department. Buehler is an an Iraq War veteran and graduate of West Point and Stanford University with no prior arrests. Just moments before a jury is set to issue a verdict, he joins us from Austin.

Will Mike Brown's Killer Avoid Charges in Ferguson? Cops Stockpile Riot ...

http://democracynow.org - There are conflicting reports out of Ferguson, Missouri, over the fate of embattled police chief Thomas Jackson. Unnamed government officials told CNN that Jackson is expected to step down as part of efforts to reform the police department following an officer's killing of unarmed black teen Michael Brown in August. But Chief Jackson and the city's mayor say the reports are false. This comes as a grand jury weighs whether the officer, Darren Wilson, should face charges in the killing of Brown. The investigation has sprung a number of leaks, with unidentified sources divulging information that seems to corroborate Wilson’s account of what happened that day. The Justice Department has condemned the leaks as "irresponsible and highly troubling," adding, "there seems to be an inappropriate effort to influence public opinion about this case." The recent disclosures have heightened tensions between the protesters and police, with protesters saying the leaks are part of a broader strategy to prematurely diffuse public discontent ahead of any decision not to indict Wilson. Meanwhile, the St. Louis County Police Department has reportedly stocked up on tear gas, grenades, pepper balls and plastic handcuffs in anticipation of massive protests when the grand jury reaches its decision in November. We are joined by Antonio French, St. Louis alderman of the 21st Ward, longtime community advocate and founder of the new organization Heal STL.

Standing Together to End Death in Prison for Children

The US is the only country in the world that sentences children to die in prison.

The Supreme Court ruled in Miller v. Alabama that it is unconstitutional to impose an automatic life-without-parole sentence on a child.

Victims' families, formerly-incarcerated youth, advocates, and loved ones of people serving juvenile life without parole traveled to Washington, D.C. to attend the oral arguments in this case and to, together, call for an end to the practice of sentencing children to die in prison.

Dying in Prison

An inside look at the forgotten prison population.

Under federal court order to reduce overcrowding in state prisons, California is now releasing thousands of prisoners or transferring them to county jails. But the rapidly aging and dying prisoners confined to state prison hospices are often left behind. As many as 3,300 inmates in the U.S. die in prison every year.

Look who profits from police brutality

Anthony Warren took police on a high-speed chase in Alabama back in 2008. When they finally apprehended him, they beat the crap out of him. Warren sued over the brutality, and the case was finally settled. The city agreed to pay out $460,000 to close the case, but here's the catch: $459,000 of that will go to Warren's lawyers, and he will only get $1000 of the settlement. The Resident discusses

Domestic Violence by Finesse Dillard

Domestic Violence is something we suffer almost everyday in this place we call our world. Domestic Violence is violent or aggressive behavior in your own home, violent abuse of a spouse or partner. A example of domestic violence is a homicide because some domestic violence will end in death. Men and women face domestic violence everyday, it is not confined to a certain culture or race and it can happen anywhere.

Maliki Shakur Latine has book list

There is now an amazon book wish list for New York State Political Prisoner Maliki Shakur Latine (thanks @throughwallsny for posting)

Maliki Shakur Latine # 81-A-4469
Clinton Correctional Facility
Post Office Box 2000
Dannemora, New York 12929
Birthday: August 23

In his early years, Maliki Shakur Latine joined the Nation of Islam and began confronting society’s oppressive forces. By 1969, Maliki joined the Black Panther Party. The discipline was not as rigid as in the Nation, but it contained the basic elements of discipline Maliki sees as essential to any effective revolutionary organization. Maliki began taking political education classes and transforming the theoretical ideals of the Panthers into daily practice.

Like many Panthers targeted by the U.S. government, Maliki found himself behind prison bars. Upon his release, Maliki found that government repression forced many Panthers underground. Maliki followed suit and spent eight years as a Black Liberation Army soldier.

On July 3rd, 1979, NYPD pulled over a car they suspected stolen. Approaching the car, guns drawn, the cops opened fire. All four occupants escaped, though one of them, and one cop, were injured. Prosecutors claimed fingerprint evidence against Maliki and a co- defendant, but no eye witnesses could place him at the scene. Following a clear pattern in cases regarding Panthers, Maliki was found guilty, sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. He has consistently been denied parole, primarily due to his past political affiliations. More information: j.mp/MalikiLatine
