Activists demand justice for Central Park 5
By Doshon Farad
On Jan. 17,2013 CNNIReport covered a rally held in support of the "Central Park 5", five teenaged African-American and Latino men (Yusef Salaam,Korey Wise,Raymond Santana,Kevin Richardson,Antron McCray) who were wrongfully convicted for the 1989 rape of a white woman who had been assaulted while jogging in Central Park. These young men served over a decade in state prison before being exonerated after Mr. Matias Reyes confessed to the crime. The Central Park 5 became the largest group to have their convictions set aside. In 2005 attorneys for the men filed a class action law suit against the city. Prior to the Jan.17th rally, a hearing was held on the same day regarding the suit, at the Federal Court House. The case was presided over by Judge Ronald L.Ellis. Your Black World spoke with some of the rally participants at its conclusion.
