Watoto is a Kiswahili word that means children.  There is a new group of preteen girls - sisters actually - who have formed a new culturally-conscious, hip hop group called Watoto from the Nile.  10-year old Nia, 9-year old Nya and 5-year old Kamaria make-up Watoto from the Nile.  Nia, Nya and Kamaria have produced a powerful single called a Letter to Lil Wayne, and they will host a Mixtap CD Signing later this afternoon (4/9) from Noon to 2 p.m. at Everyone's Place located 1356 W. North Avenue.
Letter to Lil Wayne is a strong statement decrying the negative images and depiction of women in songs and videos by rapper Lil Wayne.  These young ladies poetically and respectfully deliver their grievances regarding Lil Wayne's lyrics and behavior.  With their melodic voices and dynamic presence, Wototo from the Nile offers a well thought-out reason why Lil Wayne's music "lacks knowledge, information, and inspiration."   If you haven't already, check-out the YouTube video below and be sure to support Watoto from the Nile!
