Emmett Till was a 14-year-old African-American boy, who was murdered by white racists in the racially segregated Mississippi of 1955. The men who killed him were acquitted. After their trial, they infamously admitted their part in the murder. Tills death, which made national headlines, set off a firestorm that launched the Civil Rights Movement.
