  • Judge mulls DNA tests in 30-year-old murder case Within a month or so, Johnnie Lee Savory hopes to hear his attorneys will be able to use new DNA technology to test several items used to convict him 30 years ago of a double murder in an effort to clear his name.

Peoria County Circuit Judge Steve Kouri heard more than two hours of arguments for and against the DNA testing Thursday and then took the matter under advisement. After the hearing, an emotional Savory said he was happy to have his day in court.
