Rigg's family cries for justice after his death in UK police custody

The family and friends of a man who died in police custody are calling for charges to be brought against the responsible officers and institutions . Sean Rigg and other victims of deaths in custody were remembered at a packed memorial service in south London.

There will now be an investigation into Sean's death by the police watchdog, the Independent Police Complaints Commission. This despite there being 1433 deaths after 'contact' with the police since 1990 and not a single conviction of an officer. The family still has more questions and is taking the fight even further.

The Rigg family knows their struggle will continue to inspire others and will not give up until the entire system is reformed.

Sexpot Virgins: The Media's Sexualization of Young Girls

Based on the images that have been released, we have concerns that this beautiful Black role model for our youth is going to be sexualized in media like so many other teenage "celebrities".

This type of media has been shown in numerous studies to be harmful to our teenaged girl's mental, emotional and physical health. Essence Magazine should be careful to only publish age appropriate photos. Check out why people are signing and your signature to the petition if you agree we must protect the images of our young girls and women.

US police racism on blacks hits limits

An NYT survey shows the majority of New Yorkers believes the New York Police Department (NYPD) discriminates against blacks and have criticized the city's controversial stop-and-frisk policy.

The survey, released by the New York Times on Tuesday, found that 64 percent of New Yorkers confirm the existence of the discriminatory trend.

A significant majority of the black respondents said that the government's notorious stop-and-frisk tactic harasses innocent people.

According to the results, 48 percent of New Yorkers considered stopping people "acceptable," while almost 45 percent said it was "excessive." Results also indicated that 56 percent of blacks find the policy extreme.

Local press reports revealed that, in 2011, the police made as many as 700,000 stops, about 85 percent of which involved mostly black and Hispanic young men, up from about 97,000 a decade earlier.
