Silenced Screams

Utilizing rape alarms and a ‘secular rosary’ format to reference the recent 'decades' of cruel and dehumanizing treatment of women by the Irish state and the Catholic Church, Speaking of I.M.E.L.D.A. creatively intervened at the Repeal the Eighth Amendment demonstration in response to the recent horrific treatment of Migrant X (01/09/14: now referred to as "Miss Y") by the Irish state. The demonstration was co-organized by Speaking of I.M.E.L.D.A., London Irish Feminist Network, My Belly is Mine and Abortion Rights (UK) outside the Irish Embassy in London on 20th August 2014 and took place simultaneously, and in solidarity with, a demonstration in Dublin and demonstrations in Belfast, Galway, Derry, Limerick, Berlin and New Zealand.
