This year we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the opening of the mass struggle that led to the victory of the Cuban Revolution. On July 26, 1953, some 160 men and women, led by Fidel Castro and Abel Santamaria, launched attacks on the Moncada army barracks in Santiago de Cuba and the nearby Bayamo garrison. The attacks failed and dozens of the rebels were murdered after capture and horrible torture, or were jailed. But the action paved the way for a revolutionary war led by the July 26 Movement, culminating in a popular insurrection that toppled the US-supported Batista dictatorship on January 1, 1959.

Cuban workers and farmers took power out of the hands of the wealthy elite and its US imperialist backers, established a government of their own, and began to transform society for the benefit of the vast majority. For more than five decades, the Cuban people have defended their socialist revolution against the economic and political war, and other attacks, by eleven successive US Administrations.

Join us to celebrate and to hear what the Cuban Revolution means today and why it remains an example for working people – and all oppressed and exploited humanity – around the world, including here in the United States.

Free Lynne Stewart Rally July 1, 2013

Lynne Stewart supporters rally at the Manhattan courthouses led by her husband Ralph Poynter responding to denial of compassionate release of Lynne Stewart from federal prison. Ralph Poynter was just informed that Lynne received a three-paragraph letter on July 1st from Kathleen Kenney, General Counsel for the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Washington, that Compassionate Release has been denied on the grounds that Lynne's "health is improving." This claim is at once cynical and false. Lynne Stewart's cancer continues to spread in her lungs. She remains in isolation as her white blood cell count remains so low that she is at risk for generalized infection. She weakens daily. Her so-called crime of terror was a mere triffle, passing along a press release from an imprisoned blind Egyptian cleric to his parishoners. Her original sentence for this was 28 months but the Obama Justice Department appealed her sentence and got our disgraceful bunch of Federal Judges of the Second Circuit to increase the sentence to 10 years, in effect making it a life sentence. Their stated reason for insisting on the increase was that after receiving the 28 month sentence, she tried to comfort her supporters outside the courthouse, who were disappointed that she was not acquitted, by saying it wasn't such a long sentence, she could do it standing on her head. Hope is now focussed on the trial judge Koeltl who had asked Prison authorities that she be released to the Sloan Kettering cancer hospital

Detroit Bankruptcy The Subject Of Wiki Leaks Like Exposé

Emails And Documents Reveal Bankruptcy Was A Set Up.
Detroit, Michigan, USA (July 1, 2013) -- The website (http://www.Detroit1st.com) will release emails and documents in conjunction with a highly respected global media outlet which reveal that Detroit's bankruptcy was set up by state and local politicians. The emails detail the behind the scenes efforts to send Detroit into bankruptcy. The documents and correspondence rival the recent scandal created by the Edward Snowden's National Security Agency (NSA) leak via the British outlet The Guardian.
The documents and emails provide irrefutable evidence that Detroit's bankruptcy is due to corruption and incompetence rather than the lack of revenues. The website and news outlet point out that Detroit missed out on $1.5 billion in revenues and an additional $450 million annually due to political leaders deliberately signing a deal they knew to be a fiscally unsustainable. Documents show that an additional $150-$200 million was lost due to a single corrupt act by a former mayor of the Motor City. The documents and emails demonstrate that Detroit lost over $6 billion in revenues due to inexplicable incompetence and corruption and a minimum $4.5 billion in unwarranted costs to tax payers.
The emails and documents implicate Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, former Governor Jennifer Granholm, Attorney General Eric Holder, and numerous Detroit politicians in several cover ups that led to Detroit's economic demise. Other names and entities contained in the documents and emails range from a foreign Prime Minister, the vaunted Bundespolizei, Scotland Yard, Eminem, the State Department, the White House, and President Barack Obama.
The website (http://www.Detroit1st.com) will begin posting the information beginning 6 July 2013 which includes a plan that would bring Detroit to immediate solvency without the drastic cuts and continued raiding of tax payer funds by emergency manager Kevyn Orr and Governor Rick Snyder. The website provides evidence that Mr. Orr has kept information from the public and media which show Detroit can meet its obligations without filing bankruptcy. The website and media outlet also question moves made by Mr. Orr such as hiring current Detroit Councilman Gary Brown at triple his current salary using tax payer funds. The hiring of Mr. Orr's law firm is also brought into question due to the fact the city of Detroit currently is doling out at least $20 million in tax payer revenue to law firms to provide studies on how Detroit can save money.

#AaronSwartz [feat. L*A*W | prod. by Steel Tipped Dove | pres. by Grassroots Suicide Prevention]

As World Premiered by The Source!...
Grassroots Suicide Prevention presents: AWKWORD - "#AaronSwartz" [feat. L*A*W | prod. by Steel Tipped Dove]
*** A SUICIDE PSA RAP SONG IN HONOR OF AARON SWARTZ ***
As we have seen with the passing of Capital Steez and Freddy E this past year alone, we have a mental health and suicide issue in Hip Hop. HipHopDX, AllHipHop, Rap Rehab and others have written on it in 2013. And this is representative of a larger trend in America, with a suicide occurring every 15 minutes. Then consider all the young (and older) people still alive and suffering.
Aaron Swartz, the founder of Reddit, was systematically targeted, arrested, prosecuted and harassed by the federal government, essentially for being down with the likes of Wikileaks and seeking freedom of information. He was 26 when he was found dead in his Brooklyn apartment, having hanged himself. The young man who invented RSS at 14…
I can relate, as I do quite personally in “#AaronSwartz”, produced by Steel Tipped Dove and featuring the guitar and singing talents of seven-time Grammy nominee LAW.
This rap Suicide ‘PSA’ is sponsored by Grassroots Suicide Prevention and will appear on AWKWORD’s DJBooth-sponsored 100% for-charity global Hip Hop project ‘World View’, as well as Steel Tipped Dove’s ‘& a whole bunch of crazy motherfuckers’ mixtape (7/1/13).

#SaudiArabia court jails 7 #Facebook cyber activists

( Includes Link For Petition )

BBC 30 June 2013

A court in Saudi Arabia has sentenced seven cyber activists to between five to 10 years in prison for inciting protests, mainly by using Facebook.

The men were arrested in September last year, according to Human Rights Watch (HRW), and their trial began in April.

They were charged with posting online messages to encourage protests, although they were not accused of directly taking part in demonstrations.

It is seen as the country's latest move against online political dissent.

Popular revolt
The New York-based rights group HRW said the case was heard in an anti-terrorism court.

The longest sentence of 10 years was reportedly given to an activist who set up two Facebook groups allegedly explaining the best protest techniques.

“Sending people off to years in prison for peaceful Facebook posts sends a strong message that there's no safe way to speak out in Saudi Arabia”

Joe Stork
Human Rights Watch
The rights group said the men had all admitted contributing to Facebook pages supporting the leading Shia cleric Tawfiq al-Amer, who was held in February 2011 after calling for a constitutional monarchy.

His arrest provoked anti-government rallies inspired by a wave of popular revolt in the country's Eastern Region, where much of its crude oil is sourced.

The seven men were sentenced on 24 June for "allegedly inciting protests and harming public order, largely by using Facebook", HRW said.

The court also barred them from travelling for additional periods.

Several of the defendants said they had been tortured into signing confessions, according to HRW.

The case contained two elements that the Saudi authorities are particularly sensitive about, the BBC World Service's Middle East editor Sebastian Usher reports - political criticism expressed online and protests staged by the Shia minority in the east of the country.

Several Saudi human rights campaigners have recently been imprisoned. Two women were jailed earlier in June for allegedly inciting a woman against her husband, after they tried to help a Canadian who had complained of abuse by her Saudi husband.

HRW urged European Union officials to condemn the latest convictions ahead of a meeting with Gulf leaders on Sunday.

"Sending people off to years in prison for peaceful Facebook posts sends a strong message that there's no safe way to speak out in Saudi Arabia, even on online social networks," Joe Stork, HRW's deputy Middle East director, said.
