Welcome back into society!

Davontae Sanford, 14 year old when he confessed to a crime absent an attorney, declared innocent. Often we are watching how police, prosecutors, and some judges mistreat juveniles to draw convictions. This is a true injustice, where is the accountability?

Detroit Man Falsely Imprisoned Since 2007 Released

Years after a professional hitman claimed responsibility for the killings, a Detroit man who pleaded guilty to a quadruple homicide at 14 is expected to walk free from prison on Wednesday.
Now 23, Davontae Sanford has been incarcerated since 2007 for the fatal shootings of four people at a Detroit drug den. Pointing to not just the subsequent confession by another man but also crucial flaws made by Sanford’s original lawyer, lawyers and advocates have been claiming his innocence for seven years.
The night of the murders, Sanford conversed with police officers and, according to his attorneys’ brief, was told by cops that “you better tell us what you know”. He was 14 at the time, blind in one eye and developmentally disabled.
Sanford was then transported to a police station, where he gave officers a confession that, his attorneys wrote last year, included “no accurate facts about the killings whatsoever other that the information that his interrogator already knew."
Only two weeks after Sanford was sent to prison, Vincent Smothers, a self-described hitman, confessed to Detroit police investigators that he orchestrated and committed the murders.

Innocent Enough

This film looks at the lives of those who have suffered a miscarriage of justice or wrongful conviction within the courts of England and Wales after their conviction is overturned. Although they are no longer guilty in the eyes of the law, they face many struggles to return to the state of innocence that they had before the conviction. With stigma from the public, refusal to be acknowledged by the government that so harshly wronged them and their own anxieties and paranoia, many victims often find they are simply not innocent enough to be reintegrated back into society.

Rubin "Hurricane" Carter: A Soul-Stirring Account of a Remarkable Life (...

Rubin "Hurricane" Carter (May 6, 1937 – April 20, 2014) was an American/Canadian middleweight boxer who was wrongfully convicted of murder and later freed via a petition of habeas corpus after spending almost 20 years in prison.
In 1966, police arrested both Carter and friend John Artis for a triple-homicide committed in the Lafayette Bar and Grill in Paterson, New Jersey. Police stopped Carter's car and brought him and Artis, also in the car, to the scene of the crime. On searching the car, the police found ammunition that fit the weapons used in the murder. Police took no fingerprints at the crime scene and lacked the facilities to conduct a paraffin test for gunshot residue. Carter and Artis were tried and convicted twice (1967 and 1976) for the murders, but after the second conviction was overturned in 1985, prosecutors chose not to try the case for a third time.
Carter's autobiography, titled The Sixteenth Round, was published in 1975 by Warner Books. The story inspired the 1975 Bob Dylan song "Hurricane" and the 1999 film The Hurricane (with Denzel Washington playing Carter). From 1993 to 2005, Carter served as executive director of the Association in Defence of the Wrongly Convicted.
Carter's story inspired: The 1975 Bob Dylan song "Hurricane"; Carter also appeared as himself in Dylan's 1978 movie Renaldo and Clara. Nelson Algren's 1983 novel The Devil's Stocking. The Norman Jewison 1999 feature film The Hurricane, starring Denzel Washington in the lead role about Rubin Carter's accusation, trials, and time spent in prison. Carter later discussed at a lecture how he fell in love with Washington's portrayal of him during auditions for The Hurricane, noting that boxer Marvelous Marvin Hagler and actors Wesley Snipes and Samuel L. Jackson all vied for the role.
