Looking through my mother's things
Her costume jewellery, one diamond ring
Old photographs, of black and white
The pearls she wore on her wedding night
I found hidden deep beneath
Wrapped tenderly in tissue sheets
A music box, gold and white
A message taped to the left hand side
If you find this box then I am old and frail
Either two sheets to the wind
Or my boats set sail
Open gently with the silver key
For it holds a precious memory
I held the box and caught my breath
Was I ready to know what's inside just yet?
My mind ran wild with thoughts and dreams
Imagining what this may of been
I took the key and turned the lock
Opening up this old music box
Inside I found another key
And a message addressed to who else, me!
Take this key upon the chain
For it's magic may of still remained
Your father gave me this golden key
The day that he proposed to me
He told me it unlocked his faithful heart
And from that day forward we would never part
There are somethings old and somethings new
But for you my daughter I leave this clue
Old fashioned love is the secret key
And that my child is sheer poetry
