Troy Davis was murdered by the state of Georgia. Troy Davis was wrongfully convicted of the murder of an off-duty policeman in Savannah, Georgia. The U.S. Supreme Court denied a last-minute stay of execution amid widespread public doubts about his guilt. Davis, 42, died weeks before his 43rd birthday. On October 11, 2011 the LA Times reported that "The Supreme Court cleared the way Tuesday for Mumia Abu-Jamal to have a new jury decide whether he should be resentenced to death or to life in prison.
The high court left in place, rulings that set aside Abu-Jamal’s death sentence in a case that has drawn international attention since the 1980s."
These are high profile cases with limited media attention. The families of other wrongfully convicted inmates experience many financial difficulties while supporting incarcerated loved ones.
