OAKLAND -- A group of six activists, standing in solidarity with prisoners on a hunger strike throughout California, locked themselves to the doors of the Elihu M. Harris state building early Monday morning.
The protesters unchained themselves and moved inside the lobby, where they have now been arrested.
Around 7:45 a.m., officers were quickly deployed to the scene. Employees and others entered through the back of the building.
"We've given them an opportunity to voice their concern as far as what they're protesting," CHP spokesman Sam Morgan said. "We've tried to work with them, so to speak."
The group chanted against Gov. Jerry Brown and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation,
which they claim engages in inhumane conditions such as extended periods of solitary confinement.
