Parents
Against Police Brutality will hold a rally and press conference
Thursday, July 25 to support the mother of a police shooting victim and
two NYPD officers of color beaten by white on- and off-duty NYPD police.
The
events are timed to coincide with the witness stand appearance of
former NYPD detective Patrick Brosnan. Anthony Rosario, son of Margarita
Rosario, and her nephew Hilton Vega were killed on Jan. 12, 1995, by detectives Brosnan and
James Crowe. They were shot 22 times-11 times in the back. The City of New York agreed to pay $1.1 million to their families.
“18
years later I still have only memories of my son and nephew, while
Patrick Brosnan has continued with his life,” said Ms. Rosario. “With
Trayvon Martin on our minds and in our hearts we keep pushing to end
police brutality.”
Brosnan is testifying today in court where he is being sued for the
brutal beating of Black police officer Scott Thompson and Latino police
officer Antonio Echevestre. Also sued were off-duty officer Kevin
Tracey and on-duty officers Anthony Tetro and John Rossi. All defendants are white.
In addition to Ms. Rosario, speakers will include:
Iris Baez, mother of Anthony Baez, who was strangled to death by NYPD officer Francis Livoti on Dec. 22, 1994
