Detroit Bankruptcy Due to Hollywood, Casinos, and Canadian Bridge, Affirms Detroiter Jerome Almon

Bush League, Corrupt Politicians Cause Bailout
For Immediate Release
WASHINGTON, D.C./EWORLDWIRE/Mar 18, 2013 --- Emails between Detroiter Jerome Almon and several high profile Michigan politicians, Canadian politicians, and businessmen indicate Detroit was corrupted and "bush leagued" into bankruptcy.

According to Almon, confidential emails to be released March 22 indicate Detroit's financial collapse was caused by Michigan politicians being rolled by out-of-state businessmen and political operatives. The communications detail how Detroit lost out on billions in tax revenues and economic activity, and one hundred to two hundred thousand jobs due to state and city politicians' incompetence. This includes $100 million, $500 million, $1 billion, and $4 billion opportunities that either left Detroit or were lost due to lack of world class politicians in the state of Michigan and city of Detroit. The lack of world class leaders is the major component in the collapse of Motown, according to evidence contained in the emails.

Also affirmed by Almon is that numerous emails indicate that Michigan politicians, including former Governor Jennifer Granholm, attempted to usurp the idea for the Michigan Film Incentive Program which resulted in the state being fleeced by Hollywood. The program ended up costing Michigan taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars, with no visible benefit, according to both current Governor Rick Snyder and numerous media reports. The program was reduced to $25 million by Governor Snyder from an unlimited 42 percent per film rebate under Granholm, and is now being completely phased out.

"The city of Detroit was also hard hit by its decision to build three casinos in the 1990s," stated Almon. "The casinos rake in nearly $1.5 billion annually, with most of the revenues being shipped to Las Vegas and New York, and a billionaire pro sports mogul. The casinos pay one of the lowest tax rates in the country, while creating the highest crime rate in the country. The casino induced crime rate is the number one cause of middle class flight from Motown, which has led to the average price of a house in Detroit dropping to $7,500 according to several media outlets. The drop in property values has led drastic cuts in police, fire, and other city services. The emails indicate the process and deal cut with the casinos was rife with irregularities."

The Center For Public Integrity rates Michigan an "F" due to chronic corruption, tantamount to the state being a "theftocracy." Public records indicate that Detroit has paid out over a quarter of a billion dollars to settle police and corruption lawsuits. The emails indicate that corruption and the pursuit of glamour projects such as the film incentive and casinos led to the neglect that caused the collapse and bailout of the auto industry. Detroit is the sixth city in Michigan to go under and eventually require a federal bailout.
