Adoption film based on our story starring Nathaniel Potvin

My wife and I adopted a little boy. He came to us with a trash bag over his shoulder. We were so moved by this image that we decided to make a short film entitled "Palms". This short film was honored and became a winner at the 2013 International Family Film Festival in Los Angeles, California. Palms is the story of a foster child in search of a forever family who is holding his heart in the palm of their hands. PLEASE SEE ENTIRE MOVIE to get meaning of 'Palms'. It is (however) not the typical story of some adoptions. Some foster children suffer horribly but the Lord showed his kindness to us and our son. Palms has been shown to various organizations, churches, and families and has brought awareness to a few experiences of foster children. There are many more severe cases that don't always have a happy ending, but for us this one did. Palms was written, produced, and directed by award winning filmmaker Deep Williams. Go to WWW.RAKINGLEAVESPRODUCTIONS.COM to view other films and see current projects by Deep Williams.

Britain's shame!

Dear Mr Cameron,
People still ask, 'How could what happened in Nazi Germany have come about?' Today, Britain is an object lesson in exactly how it came about.
The DWP has created our own 'Untermensch', a class of people treated as sub-human, people who are seen and treated as lesser creatures even than the worst criminals (who are at least housed and fed), vilified on national television and who can be attacked with impunity, without protection in law, without rights and who are being mercilessly persecuted.
I mean, of course, people on benefits, people who are sick, the terminally ill and people who are disabled who are being socially abandoned and deprived of the means of survival.
I was up all night watching as the votes were counted after the general election and I don't think I have ever felt so desolate as it became clear that you were going to get a majority of seats. After a lifetimes battle with mental ill health, a personal war I fought every day working as a Community and Youth Worker and now, at 64, sickness retired, facing the very real possibility that I might not be permitted to survive another 5 years almost broke me.
Evidence from the PCS Union reveals that (some) Jobcentres are expected to reach targets of 80% sanctions and to get as many people off benefits as possible using provocation, intimidation and harassment with staff encouraged to use the "hassle factor" to "frustrate claimants off benefits".
The worst cuts are yet to come with welfare as one of the primary targets and disability benefits firmly in the firing line.
Millions sacrificed their lives to prevent this country being invaded by Nazi Germany and yet this country has voted to allow George Osborne and Iain Duncan Smith to vilify and target the most vulnerable people in society, to roll out their pogroms of cuts and sanctions that will deprive people of life. May they hang their heads in shame for such a callous disregard for life.

Lyrics to the song:
-------------------------------
It's Power to the People, destruction to the system / free all of the drug offenders that are stuck in prison / the drug war is nothing but a corporate war for profit / and every drug arrest is money in somebody's pocket / the rich get richer at the expense of the rest of us / conflict of interest, cops profit by arresting us / when they imprison you for drugs the only victim's you / they say it's for your well being but that simply isn't true / the drug war's a business, prison is an institute / of wage-slavery for the companies who getting loot / by locking up non-violent individuals / drug offenders of any kind are NOT criminals / they'd rather lock us up than see us educated / 'cause knowledge is power and slavery brings in a payment / so the schools shutting down, prisons being built up / and the drug war's making sure the prisons stay filled up / companies who profit from it lobby for the drug war / it's nothing but business, the government's the biggest drug lord / drug laws are unjust, classist and racist / slavery was never abolished, it changed faces / from plantations with slaves cotton pickin' / now it's corporations profiting off people locked in prison / they targeting the darker race / for profit they incarcerate people, there's no justice 'cause the system is a market place / the term correctional facility's a joke / if the inmates were corrected then the system would be broke / if the system went broke then the system would collapse / drug offenders aren't criminals, they're victims of attack / they are prisoners of war for the profit of corporations / and the government who forces laws upon the population / so tell the lawyers in the courts and the judge / that the war on drugs is a war on us / it has been a hoax since before richard nixon / the system is broke yet they claim it don't fixin' / isn't it obvious? big corporate lobbyists / created the drug war 'cause that's where all the profit is / now we suffering / while these blood suckas in the government bringing all of the drugs, guns and money in / and they punishing firs time felons / for using or for selling with a draconian sentence / non-violent offenders shouldn't have to do a day / locked away in a prison cell for someone else's pay / this is what I say: it's time we put an end to this / war against the people and then start a prison exodus!

We are not defeated

Shut up, just shut the fuck up !
Did you expect different ? From a Labour party who did sweet FA in opposition but go along with Tory policies !
Did you expect to wake today and oppression would no longer exist. Starvation, Foodbanks, sanctions etc to be gone ? Did you think the black man who can't get a decent job because of racism would wake up white ? Did you expect disabled people to suddenly get up and walk and be fine ?
Did you expect fairness, justice and equality without fighting for it ? You have been fighting you say ? Yes with each other and listening to the theorists who talk a load of shit that cannot be proved.
Now is NOT the time for whinging and whining - now is the time to Unify to bring all oppressed peoples together. To call together the black communities, the Asian, the poor and destitute - it is a time to educate each other and draw all our resources together for what the future holds. To back up the street teams helping the homeless and poor, to open help centres from your homes and get out and help the unemployed. To reinforce anti-eviction squads and be there for the people that will need us.
It is a time for plans of action to stop the Tory machine, to stop the greed and selfishness. It is a time of THIS IS WHAT I'M GOING TO DO not..."What am I going to do?".
Be positive because change depends on you. The system was never going to be the answer to the problem of the system. We have lost nothing. Now is the time to dig deep, to really mean it and put your petty squabbles aside bring in the black, Asian and other communities and stop being so middle class Occupy, Green, Eco....Throw out your agendas and listen to those who are truly suffering oppression everyday. Get out and help, plan, scheme and do what you were born for - Fight back.
We are not defeated - it was simply another day a broken system was allowed to run.

5 Wrongfully Accused Innocent People

5 Wrongfully Accused Innocent People. The people in this video were all wrongfully accused and wrongfully locked up. Luckily justice was served eventually!

5. Rubin Carter

Rubin “Hurricane” Carter fought professionally as a middleweight boxer from 1961 to 1966. In 1966, he was arrested and wrongly convicted for a triple homicide in the Lafayette Bar and Grill in Paterson, New Jersey. He and another man, John Artis, were tried and convicted twice for the murders, but after the second conviction was overturned in 1985, prosecutors chose not to try the case for a third time. The movie "The Hurricane" was based on this story...

4. General John D. Lavelle

General John D Lavelle, who was stripped of his ranks because of allegations of misconduct over bombing missions in the Vietnam war. A little over 20 years after his death, President Obama nominated him posthumously back to the grade of general on the retired list. Information was released that General Lavelle was only following orders and that the misconduct was in fact higher up the chain of command.

3. Thomas Kennedy

Being falsely accused of raping your own daughter is probably a father’s worst nightmare. Because some of the evidence seemed so authentic, Thomas Kennedy was sentenced to 15 years in prison. After 9 years, Cassandra, his daughter owned up to falsely accusing her father and confessed that the physical evidences of rape were because she had sexual relations with a boy in second grade. The boy, already an adult by the time she revealed the truth, released a statement saying that what she said was indeed true.

2. Steven Truscott

A 14 year old Canadian student was sentenced to death in 1959 for the murder of a classmate. He was supposed to be the youngest person ever placed on death row but a temporary reprieve was granted to postpone the execution and eventually was commuted to life imprisonment. Things turned around in his favor and almost 50 years later, Truscott was awarded $6.5 million in compensation after he was acquitted.

1. Henry Lee McCollum and Leon Brown

In 1983, Henry Lee McCollum and Leon Brown were convicted for the sexual assault and murder of an 11-year old girl in North Carolina. The men’s confessions were largely based on details that the men said were coerced from them by police. In September 2014, the mentally disabled half-brothers were declared innocent and released from a death sentence after DNA evidence implicated another suspect. Upon their release as ordered by a Supreme Court Judge, the courtroom audience erupted in a standing ovation.

Dear Mr Cameron,

Whatever happens tomorrow, the battle for the UK is on and it won't be won by any self aggrandising knights in shining armour in parliament. This battle belongs to the people, by the people, for the people.

The Political 'class' have betrayed the people, it has become a bloated elite who have forgotten or deliberately abandoned the notion of serving the people. Whether it is Iraq, PFI, the banking system, privatising our NHS, public services, Welfare (yes, faring well - thriving), tax justice, legal aid and representation, mass surveillance, human rights, stifling the unions, social housing, a fair days work for a wage it is possible to live on, care of the vulnerable, child care, education, TTIP and ISDS, the battle is on.

What has become abundantly clear since Thatcher declared war on the unions, is that the people have steadily and systematically been betrayed. These last five years have been a neoliberal orgasm of betrayal and the next five years will decide the fate of this nation, a fate which must be decided by the people.

Whoever gets in that cannot be allowed to seal our fate for the next five years, there has to be accountability, politicians must answer to the people. Do you remember the trifling matter of promising constitutional reform and the power of recall in 2010? It was just one lie amongst so many; empty, treacherous, words that meant one thing, betrayal.

If politicians refuse to be accountable, there is only one option available, you must be forced into accountability. It is a curious thing, this country has been very kind to politicians, allowing you as much rope as you needed to hang yourselves. Your party, above all others, has set the agenda for the next five years and beyond and therefore the necessity of a new politics of public engagement and cooperation to demand accountability.

It's not going to be easy, divisiveness and selfishness are not easily overcome, especially when politicians and powerful media barons spread discord, hate and fear on a daily basis. This is a battle that must be undertaken precisely because it is hard as that is a measure of the betrayal we are up against. The people are power, Mr Cameron, and it is time that politicians felt the real weight of that power.

Robert Seth Hayes #74-A-2280
Medical Justice Days of Action:
May 5 - 8, 2015
Seth in 2011
Seth on Nov. 30, 2014
Robert Seth Hayes is one of the longest held political prisoners in the US. He is 66 years old and suffers from multiple chronic and concerning medical problems. As many of you know, we recently waged a medical campaign for him a few months ago regarding rapid and concerning weight loss as well as poorly controlled diabetes. Neither of these concerns has been addressed to date.
NYS DOCCS states on its website that denial of adequate medical care is a violation of a person’s eighth amendment constitutional rights, so please help demand that Seth be provided with proper care.
Since we began our campaign last week, Seth's medical situation has actually worsened. He has had a cough for over a week with shortness of breath. He is also intermittently coughing up blood tinged mucus. He has not been evaluated or treated for these symptoms.
We must keep the pressure on and be consistent, insistent and persistent to make sure we do not lose yet another of our beloved freedom fighters due to deliberate medical neglect.
