Four years after Iranians demanded "Where Is My Vote?" only eight men considered Khameini's allies have been allowed to run in next week's election. Meanwhile, more than 500 prisoners of conscience remain behind bars, including opposition leaders on house arrest. Iran is not free.
United for Iran, Amnesty USA and local activists kicked off a global action week June 9 in San Francisco that continues in Vienna, Austria, on June 10 - with Amnesty International activists undertaking 100 hours of solidarity: https://www.facebook.com/events/38158....
The San Francisco program includes:
-Instrumental Persian music by violinist Pourya Khademi, guitarist Mohammad Talani and Kamran Tondar.
-A reading of imprisoned student activist Majid Tavakoli's speech by Iranian exile Abbas Hakimzadeh.
- Speeches by Sarah Shourd, an American who was held in solitary confinement for over a year at Evin Prison * Iranian exile Nasim Sarabandi, a women's rights activist who was arrested for her activities with the One Million Signatures campaign * Firuzeh Mahmoudi, director of United for Iran * Amir Soltani, author of Zahra's Paradise * Amnesty USA's Sara Schmidt * and San Francisco sheriff Ross Mirikarimi.
-Spoken word by Turaj Zaim, an Iranian-American activist-poet who in 2009 staged a hunger strike for the release of his father from Evin Prison., who will also be symbolically released from an onstage jail cell.
- Performances by Revolution of the Mind (hip-hop), Mansour Taeed (comedian), and readings by Sepa Sama, Jazzmin Adibi and Fariba Safai.
