Afghan woman jailed for being raped pardoned

In Afghanistan, the treatment of a rape victim is drawing international attention to the plight of women.

The woman, known as 'Gulnaz', was raped by a relative - and then jailed for having sex out of wedlock.

She has now been pardoned by Hamid Karzai, the Afghan president, but is understood to be facing pressure to marry the man who abused her.

Kimberley Motley, Gulnaz's lawyer, told Al Jazeera her pardon is an important precedent for the rights of Afghan women.
